Failure To Launch Anxiety And Cognitive Therapies

By Ronald Olson

Children whom suffer from anxiety, ADHD and other emotional issues often have a hard time functioning. The same goes for young adults as when children reach a certain age, it can still be hard to function on a daily basis. In most cases, those having these problems are suffering from Failure to Launch Anxiety Syndrome.

In most cases, studies have shown that cognitive treatments are best when dealing with this syndrome. Young adults are often treated for these issues based on improvement of the syndrome. In most cases, a diagnostic manual provides information as to different signs of improvement. While this is the case, there are other issues which need be considered when diagnosing or reviewing these cases.

These aspects include any physical disabilities, learning disabilities, whether or not the individual has a connection to reality and whether or not the individual has found happiness. If so, then using a cognitive approach and allowing the individual to learn how to handle different activities can often be beneficial.

Relationships with friends, lovers and family members is an important aspect of life for these individuals. For, often the more acceptance and love the individual receives, the better. Man of those effected by the syndrome are at important life stages. For example, moving from childhood into teenage years or teenage years into adulthood. In either case, there are a lot of hormonal changes going on in the body whether male or female which can effect the anxiety levels associated with the condition.

Talk therapy is not often enough to keep these individuals on-track on an ongoing basis. In most cases, there will still need to be ongoing therapy. When taking medication, it is important to obtain a review to determine whether or not there may need to be a change based on changes in the level anxiety an individual may be suffering at any given time.

Also, the first time an individual leaves home for the first time after having been housebound, a chaperon is often recommended. For, it can often be overwhelming when stepping back out into public for the first time. Whether going to a grocery, taking a bus or attending an event, a chaperon can often make the experience far more enjoyable for the individual.

If going outside or leaving home and the individual becomes overwhelmed with anxiety, it is important to turn back. For, while many suffering from this condition can do so, it is not the case for everyone. As such, it is important to recognize and support the needs of those suffering from anxiety at any given time.

While the cognitive approach can benefit some, this is not always the case. In many cases, it is a matter of whether or not an individual can resolve attachments associated with the mind which are inhibiting the individual from moving forward. In most cases, when an individual is suffering anxiety due to post traumatic stress disorder or severe mental illness, improvement can be much harder than for others.
