A C-arm is a medical piece of equipment that is used in various surgical procedures in clinics and hospitals. The c arm x ray device has an arm that is shaped like a letter C from which its name derives. The C shaped armed is used to connect the x-ray detector and the x-ray source to one another. Thus, the x-rays are generated in one place and then they travel through the arm to the detector where they are detected.

Apart from having lower efficiency level, the initial models of C-arms had a large size. However, with modern technology, these devices are now designed to occupy small spaces. Fixed systems are more liked than mobile c-arms in hybrid operating rooms. The reason is that they do not need time for cooling and one can use them for longer periods. Normally, fixed systems use liquid cooling systems to avoid issues to do with overheating. Liquid cooling has the advantage. The benefit is that the system can be used for longer periods before they are allowed to cool down.

Modern systems also use flat-panel technology that allows for production of images that are free from distortion. The images also have more than 16, 000 different shades of gray. The resolution is over 1500 by 1500 pixels. Since the device does not get affected by magnetic field, the images are not distorted by magnetic fields. That means that the device can be placed near magnetic resonance (MR) scanners without experiencing any kind of problem.

Production of images with a much larger field of view is the other benefit that comes with flat-panel technology. Flat-panel detectors can produce images with up to 60 percent more information than conventional image intensifiers. With this, physicians including surgeons have more details to operate with. Therefore, surgical procedures are greatly improved in terms of the accuracy.

C-arms are manufactured in a way that they can work with patient tables which are designed for x-ray imaging. These tables are made to allow the imagining device to correctly fit around the body of a person. In other cases, some tables are made in way that they can be moved to allow the machine to fit better on the body of patients. This gives a chance for the images to be taken better.

Images can be taken from a wide range of angles by c-arms. This allows for more details to be recorded, which in turn allows for more accuracy during procedure. Tables may be made translucent in some cases to prevent any kind of interference with the process of imaging. The use of carbon fiber has also grown a lot in this application because the material is lightweight and strong at the same time.

Lastly, one can access services offered using c-arm x ray imaging machines easily today. The reason is that technological advancements permit creation of imaging devices at lower costs. Their use and maintenance is also easy, allowing more health facilities to access them.
